Mo. treasury has money waiting for 4.8 million people

Eric Schmitt, the State Treasurer of Missouri, is currently holding on to over $988 million in unclaimed property that belongs to 4.8 million residents and businesses! This staggering amount of money comes from all types of different sources, but the common factor is that it has gone unclaimed for over five years. Once that point is passed, it is turned over to the treasury for safe keeping. Currently, the average processing time for a claim is 15 days, with an average return of $300!
